Language Arts
We are here to help your student grow! During our small group time, we have students in fluid groups based off of skills. This enables us to target specific areas and skills, and help your child become a better and more fluent reader. We use data from DIBELS (a short reading passage) and MAP Growth (Measure of Academic Progress), which is a computerized adaptive test. We will also use 95 Percent Group (for phonics), and teacher observations to help place your child in the appropriate group. I love the support we have from multiple teachers and paraprofessionals in our building to help all students!
I am very passionate about project-based learning because it is a great way for students to answer a complex question or real-life problem. In a PBL, students work on a project for an extended period of time (in second grade this will be for a few weeks). As a result of this, students develop communication skills, critical thinking skills, and a deeper level of content and understanding. Students can show their creativity throughout their project. We have a few great ones already planned. I change them each year as I get to know my students and how we can work together to achieve different goals and concepts.
